Staff
Our Y1 class is led by Miss Clarkson supported by our teaching assistants, Mrs Williams and Miss Collins.
PE
Y1 have PE on Tuesday. Children wear their complimentary Roby Park PE kit to school – white logo tshirt, navy joggers and jacket. In the warmer months, children may want to wear their burgundy shorts.
Reading Books
Children are allocated multiple books weekly on Rising Stars Reading Planet as well as a physical book which is changed weekly, linked to their stage of Reading. Physical books are changed every Monday. We expect children to read for 10 minutes every night and then to complete the end of book comprehension quiz online when they come to the end of their book. You can access Reading Planet here.
Home Learning
- Children are to read for 10 minutes per night and bring their reading log in everyday, signed by an adult.
- Spelling and times table home learning will be set on a Monday via Emile and should be completed by the following Monday.

Y1 European Day of Languages
For European Day of Languages today, we had a day filled with Spanish activities and a Spanish themed lunch too! We sang songs, played interactive games and even created our own self portrait in the style of Spanish artist Picasso!

Wellbeing Coffee Morning

There has been a lot of reading in year 1 this week! We have been spending time reading with and to our friends, enjoying stories on our Toniebox and exploring some of our Rocket Phonics books too! Well done year 1

In geography we began our new unit with some field work. We worked collaboratively as we made our way around school, identifying key landmarks within our school on a simple map as we went! #RPGeography

Y1 OPAL Golden Broom Award
Our golden broom award went to a child in year 1 this week who has displayed fantastic team work at tidying up time! He has been making an effort to help tidy all areas, even ones he hasn’t been playing in! Well done!

We’ve had the best OPAL afternoon with parents – engaging in play with children across our school from nursery to year 6 and being able to show our adults all of the exciting things that we can get up to during our break and lunch times!

For reading time today, our class picked Chocolate Cake by @MichaelRosenYes from the library. We loved it SO much, we wanted to see it read by the author himself…and just look how much it was enjoyed! Definately a new favourite! #RPReading

What a first forest school session! We kept warm in an emergency shelter, practised our fire lighting, worked collaboratively to made bug houses and used ropes to make various shapes – all activities towards stamps on our forest school skills! #RPEnrichment

Junior Dukes Workshops
We’re looking forward to welcoming parents & carers to our @JuniorDukeAward workshops. All workshops start at 9am and parents/carers will be working alongside their child to decide what challenges they will complete over the next academic year.

After seeing how we can group animals based on their characteristics, we have moved onto grouping them by their diets. Today we completed venn diagrams to groups animals into omnivores, herbivores and carnivores

We have been discussing how we thought characters in our new text would be feeling when their efforts to rescue Old Bear from the attic were unsuccessful. We created freeze frames to show these feelings from worry, upset, anger and determination!

We had our first DEAR time session this week when we dropped everything and choose a book from our library to read either independently or to share with our friends! Well done year 1!

Summer Holiday Camp
Summer camp places can now be booked on Parent Pay. Sessions run from 9am – 3pm and cost just £12.50 per child, per day. Summer camp runs from Monday 22nd July – Friday 9th August. Children need to bring with them a coat, packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

Y1 End of Year Class Trip
We have had a fantastic day at @Smithillsfarm today. Benji took us around and we were able to feed & meet the animals, watch the cows being milked, enjoy donkey rides & tractor rides to feed the animals! One of the children said “I’m having the best day ever!” #RPEnrichment

Y1 Computing
We used sketchpad to insert text boxes to create a list of materials we would need to make a rocket we could then launch to be able to record the distances they travel in a spreadsheet. After this we created our rocket designs and used click and drag to label them!

Million Steps Challenge Competition Winners
As part of the Million Steps Challenge, @cashforkidsliv teamed up with publisher Simon & Schuster to offer all participating primary schools the chance to win a Library Pack of 20 books. Our @SSCCTY meetings are pupil led and so this was a perfect chance to find out what they would like the reward to be for the house with the most house points and to share all of their ideas! Lots wanted bouncy castles but Taylor Swift and water parks were suggestions too!

For #WorldWildlifeDay we learnt about oceans and waters. We located waters that surround the UK, created posters to stop plastic pollution and save our oceans before creating under water scenes with wax after seeing the amazing colours in oceans around the world!

Y1 World Wildlife Day
We discussed animals that live in our oceans as part of #WorldWildlifeDay & some asked how big some of the animals were. So, along with @Year2RobyPark we did some research and used ourselves to make the length of blue whales and orca. We were amazed at their size!

Rock Kidz – Fri 10th Nov
Tomorrow is our annual @RockKidzUK Day which will be teaching the children a positive message about mental health, self esteem and wellbeing, Children can come dressed as rock stars or if they do not want to dress up they can wear their own clothes or uniform.

WOW! Today we had our first swim session with @ELITE_Swim_UK We worked on entering the water, using our arms to move around, floating on our backs…and had some noodle races too! We were very brave and showed lots of confidence and resilience! #RPEnrichment #RPPE

In art we have been looking at different types of line, shapes and also colour. Starting with shape, we then moved onto lines and then combined our learning to create abstract art made up of overlapping shapes, colour and a variety of lines!

In English we have been immersing ourselves in our new book ‘Old Bear’. Various items had been left in our classroom for us to explore and we used these to help us to come up with some fastastic predictions about what could happen in our story!?

We worked together to recreate scenes from the book ‘Old Bear’, using what we have already read to show how the characters may be feeling and what they would be doing. We even rescued Old Bear from high up in the classroom and were very excited!?

Today we had a special visit from @AlldaysFarm and had the chance to hold, pet, feed and brush a pony, sheep, goats, chickens, a chinchilla and even a snake! all the children were very brave and gentle with the all of the animals. Well done year 1? @CAHKnowsley #RPEnrichment
