Y1 European Day of Languages

For European Day of Languages today, we had a day filled with Spanish activities and a Spanish themed lunch too! We sang songs, played interactive games and even created our own self portrait in the style of Spanish artist Picasso!

There has been a lot of reading in year 1 this week! We have been spending time reading with and to our friends, enjoying stories on our Toniebox and exploring some of our Rocket Phonics books too! Well done year 1

In geography we began our new unit with some field work. We worked collaboratively as we made our way around school, identifying key landmarks within our school on a simple map as we went!  #RPGeography

Our golden broom award went to a child in year 1 this week who has displayed fantastic team work at tidying up time! He has been making an effort to help tidy all areas, even ones he hasn’t been playing in! Well done!

For reading time today, our class picked Chocolate Cake by @MichaelRosenYes from the library. We loved it SO much, we wanted to see it read by the author himself…and just look how much it was enjoyed! Definately a new favourite! #RPReading

What a first forest school session! We kept warm in an emergency shelter, practised our fire lighting, worked collaboratively to made bug houses and used ropes to make various shapes – all activities towards stamps on our forest school skills! #RPEnrichment

Junior Dukes Workshops

We’re looking forward to welcoming parents & carers to our @JuniorDukeAward workshops. All workshops start at 9am and parents/carers will be working alongside their child to decide what challenges they will complete over the next academic year.

Y1 Science

After seeing how we can group animals based on their characteristics, we have moved onto grouping them by their diets. Today we completed venn diagrams to groups animals into omnivores, herbivores and carnivores

We have been discussing how we thought characters in our new text would be feeling when their efforts to rescue Old Bear from the attic were unsuccessful. We created freeze frames to show these feelings from worry, upset, anger and determination!

Y1 DEAR Time

We had our first DEAR time session this week when we dropped everything and choose a book from our library to read either independently or to share with our friends! Well done year 1!

Today we had our celebratory forest school session when we were awarded our certificates for our fantastic achievements this past year as well as celebration marshmallows on the fire!

Y1 Science

We have been looking at materials and their properties in our final science unit and ended with designing three outfits for different weather conditions. We needed to ensure we considered the materials we would need to make the outfits suitable! #RPScience

Y1 Olympic Workshop

We had a brilliant Olympic dance workshop with @educationgroup. We focused on Spain and came to school wearing Spanish colours before learning some Spanish style dancing!  #RPEnrichment #Olympics

Y1 Reading

Another fantastic afternoon of @OPAL_CIC play with our adults! Our new OPAL playtimes allow us more opportunities for independence, building resilience making new friends across school, team building, collaborative and imaginative play & lots of laughter!

Y1 Class Trip

We had such a great day at Laurel’s Wood today. We climbed trees, worked collaboratively and showed resilience while using a saw to cut bamboo to make necklaces, made a fire, toasted marshmallows & even had a go on the rope swing! #RPEnrichment

We had a fantastic visit from @CurtisWatt who is a performance poet. He told us about the journey he has been on to get to where is he now and got us all engaged with his djembe drum that we couldn’t resist dancing to!Resilience and working hard were our key words! #RPCareersWeek

We LOVED our visit from @MerPolMounted today for careers week! We learnt that you don’t already have to be a rider to become mounted police, how to become a mounted officer, how valuable horses are to the police force and what the best part of the officers job is! #RPCareersWeek

Summer Holiday Camp

Summer camp places can now be booked on Parent Pay. Sessions run from 9am – 3pm and cost just £12.50 per child, per day. Summer camp runs from Monday 22nd July – Friday 9th August. Children need to bring with them a coat, packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

Summer Fair

Our Summer Fair is back this Friday 1-4pm! Children can wear their own clothes to school. Purchase your tickets on Parent Pay and collect your wristbands from the office for priority access. Join us for fun in the sun…

School will finish at 12.45pm on the day so all children can attend with their families.

EYFS children should be collected from the Easton Road gate and KS1 & KS2 from their Western Avenue exits. All children and families should make their way around to Easton Rd for entry to the fair. All children are to be supervised by their adults.

Y1 End of Year Class Trip

We have had a fantastic day at @Smithillsfarm today. Benji took us around and we were able to feed & meet the animals, watch the cows being milked, enjoy donkey rides & tractor rides to feed the animals! One of the children said “I’m having the best day ever!”  #RPEnrichment

Y1 Forest School

We had a wonderful forest school session that led to lots of forest stamps & badges! We worked on our knot tying before working collaboratively to collect leaves and create decorations from them…some of us even got the chance to cut wood with an axe and mallet! #RPEnrichment

In DT we have looked at textiles, first looking at ways to join two pieces of material before designing and making our own finger puppets based on the story Little Red. Well done year 1 for showing your creativity and resilience! #RPDT

KS1 Father’s Day Celebration Assembly

Y1 Computing

We used sketchpad to insert text boxes to create a list of materials we would need to make a rocket we could then launch to be able to record the distances they travel in a spreadsheet. After this we created our rocket designs and used click and drag to label them!

Y1 SMART Council

In today’s @SSCCTY our focus was the British Value respect. We asked the question ‘How do you show and receive respect in school’. Our answers were very mixed but we were very respectful in hearing each others different ideas and thoughts! Well done year 1! #RPPSHE

Summer Term 2 Extra-curricular Clubs

Million Steps Challenge Competition Winners

As part of the Million Steps Challenge, @cashforkidsliv teamed up with publisher Simon & Schuster to offer all participating primary schools the chance to win a Library Pack of 20 books. Following the end of the challenge all schools that signed up were put into a draw, and…we’re thrilled to let you know that our school is a winner!  Books are on their way to us and will go into our reading shed for our children to enjoy

Y1 Smart Council

Our @SSCCTY meetings are pupil led and so this was a perfect chance to find out what they would like the reward to be for the house with the most house points and to share all of their ideas! Lots wanted bouncy castles but Taylor Swift and water parks were suggestions too!

Y1 Bounce!

We were very lucky to have had a little surprise treat this morning…some time spent on year 6’s end of SATs inflatables! Happy faces all round – what a fantastic way to end the week. One of our children said “This has been my favourite day ever!”#RPEnrichment

We have been focusing on the end of our story ‘The Secret of Black Rock’ and considering how Erin may have felt when none of the adults believed her that Black Rock was a sea creature! We created freeze frames showing the characters feelings

We have begun looking at plants in science. We revisited what we already know and created a storyboard of how to plant seeds. We were then were able to plant our own using these…we don’t know what our seeds will grow into yet but we are excited to find out!

OPAL Golden Welly Award

Well done to our golden welly winner this week. He has been very collaborative and included other children in his play. His kindness has been spotted by many different staff.

Sun Safety

Please make sure children are wearing factor 50 sun cream when the weather is predicted to be hot. Please leave jumpers/cardigans off. Children need a water bottle to stay hydrated & a hat to protect them from the sun. Children will be encouraged to play in shaded areas

We had a wonderful morning spent with @Littlefoothq in forest school  From identifying trees, compass points, bug hunts, camouflaging ourselves, fire lighting & knot practice, we had a very busy morning with lots of stamps towards our forest school badges! Well done year 1!

Following launching our new @OPAL_CIC playtimes, this weeks @SSCCTY meeting was focused on the impact that OPAL has had on our playtime in school. Promoting the British Value of democracy and tolerance, it was lovely to see what the children are enjoying most! #RPBV #RPPSHE

Our New Reading Shed

Our new Reading Shed has arrived in our quiet zone. Children will be able to enjoy a range of fiction and non fiction books purchased with money raised through our reading sponsored event. We have also purchased Tonies for children who want to enjoy audible stories

Y1 St George’s Day

To celebrate #StGeorgesDay2024 we had a visit from @PastProductions and St George himself who taught us lots about who he is. We turned ourselves into dragons that St George wanted to slay, went on treasure hunts and acted out key words linked to his story. #RPEnrichment

Y1 Art

We have started our new art unit where we will be creating a collage depicting a season by using weaving and a variety of materials. We began today by colour sorting various materials and fabrics! Well done Year 1  #RPArt

KS1 Spanish Club

Today we had our first KS1 Spanish extra-curricular club. With the help of Language Angels Lucy, we looked at the unit En la selva – learning animals, playing spot the wrong animal part & singing a song before doing some colouring! #RPExtraCurricular #RPSpanish

Y1 OPAL Day

We kicked off summer term launching our new @OPAL_CIC resources and what an amazing day we’ve had! Tree swings, mud kitchen, crates, tyres, pallets, swings, den building, small world & role play to name a few! We are so excited for every playtime to look like this!

OPAL Day

We are excited to see all of the chn back for an exciting start of term tomorrow. Doors open at 8.40am. Just a polite reminder to send chn into school in their school PE tracksuit, trainers and warm coat for our @OPAL_CIC launch day tomorrow.

Chn will get to experience and enjoy all of our new resources. Chn must have their wellies with them to go on the field. Wellies will stay in school so please wear trainers and bring wellies in a bag. Keep an eye out on all of our socials to see what fun the children get up to.

OPAL Day – Mon 15th April

To launch all of our exciting new @OPAL_CIC resources, we are going to host a launch day this Mon for the chn. All chn need to come in to school wearing their PE kits and trainers, with their wellies also to keep in school. Children are only allowed on the field with wellies.

Y1 Growing Up Week

As part of growing up week we talked about where money came from. This lead us to discussing what we want to be when we grow up to earn money and then dressing up as this career! From footballers to doctors, ballerinas and vets – we all have high aspirations! #RPGrowingUpWeek

New Welly Stores Have Arrived!

All of our new welly stores and benches have been delivered and are in place, awaiting your child’s wellies! Please make sure your child has a labelled pair of wellies in school as of 15th April. Wellies will remain in school. Thank you.

Thank you to our HSA & our staff for making Easter happen at Roby Park. They’ve collected Easter eggs & organised an Easter Egg Hunt that the children thoroughly enjoyed. Our Easter discos were a great success also & today there will be visitors to class with more egg surprises

Y1 Growing Up Week

As part of growing up week, we looked at a variety of activities, foods and drinks and then worked collaboratively to rate these from healthy for us, to unhealthy. We said that even though some things are unhealthy, it’s okay to have them sometimes! #RPGrowingUpWeek

In science we have been looking at materials. We began by identifying what material various objects were made out of before exploring different objects to work out the properties of different materials!

Y1 SMART Council

For our latest @SSCCTY meeting we discussed what ways we can be proud of our school and ourselves. We used our British values of respect and democracy to ensure that everybody had a say in our discussions before casting our votes! #RPBV #RPWellbeing

Y1 Forest School

For forest school with @Littfoothq we had to build structures that were strong enough to withstand challenges of Joe trying to knock them down. We discovered that the strongest towers aren’t always the tallest and need a really strong base!  #RPEnrichment

Easter Disco

Don’t forget tomorrow children can come to school in their own clothes to enjoy an Easter egg hunt. Easter disco tickets are available on Parent Pay. Tickets must be purchased before discos. Please see our letter sent on Class Charts for timings and details

Summer Term1 Extra-curricular Clubs

Summer term extra curricular clubs are live on Parent Booking at midday today. Please note our @OPAL_CIC play sessions are family events and parents/carers are to accompany their child. Younger siblings are welcome but are the responsibility of parents/carers

Y1 World Wildlife Day

For #WorldWildlifeDay we learnt about oceans and waters. We located waters that surround the UK, created posters to stop plastic pollution and save our oceans before creating under water scenes with wax after seeing the amazing colours in oceans around the world!

BINGO TIME! Each class that completes their class bingo card wins a class prize! The class that collects the most of the star item wins an additional prize to be enjoyed by all the class. Why not have a sort out this Easter and see how you can help?

We Need Your Wellies!

Please make sure your child has wellies to keep in school, no later than Mon 15th Apr. Children can only go on the field in wellies if the grounds are wet and we do not want anyone to miss out on all of the exciting play opportunities coming this Easter.

Fantastic Fundraising Efforts

WOW! We have raised £379.20 for brand new books from our sponsored reading event and £104 for @comicrelief. Books will be going into our new reading shed for children to enjoy at playtimes. Thank you so much! @OPAL_CIC

Y1 World Book Day

For #WorldBookDay2024 today, we spent time with another class and having a story read to us by Mr Couling.  We really enjoyed sharing stories with year 4 and having stories read to us too and it was made even better by all being cozy in our pyjamas! #RPEnrichment

Y1 World Wildlife Day

We discussed animals that live in our oceans as part of #WorldWildlifeDay & some asked how big some of the animals were. So, along with  @Year2RobyPark we did some research and used ourselves to make the length of blue whales and orca. We were amazed at their size!

Easter Holiday Club

Our Easter Holiday Club is back for YR-Y6, running from 2nd-12th April. Sessions run from 9.00-3.00pm and cost £12.50 per day. Children need to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and raincoat. Select your days and make payment on Parent Pay #RPEnrichment

Y1 Design Technology

SMOOTHIES! After tasting fruits and veg in our last lesson, we were ready to make a smoothie with our favourite ingredients! We made sure we washed our hands, practiced cutting safety and followed a recipe to create our very own smoothies

We promoted the British Value of democracy today in our @SSCCTY meeting ensuring everyone had their say! As this year is a leap year, we discussed how we would best like to spend an extra 24 hours. Most of us said we would like to spend it having fun with friends  #RPBV #RPPHSE

In English we have started our new book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. Today, we worked collaboratively to recreate freeze frames of scenes from the story, thinking carefully about the characters feelings and actions

We are making smoothies in DT but before we can we needed to explore fruits and veg! We were surprised to find that some foods we thought were vegetables are actually fruits and we know this because they have seeds! After we grouped the foods, we tried some too!

We need socks!

The children are loving the sandpit which is a great addition to playtimes and our curriculum. Please can we ask parents/carers to put additional socks in children’s bags incase they get wet in the sandpit during the colder/wetter months? Thank you

Y1 Computing

We looked at digital imagery today and started by planning photo stories that we could then recreate using an iPad to take photos with our friends. We then edited these using tools to help us to crop, change the colour, add filters and resize!

We’re excited to have @Scholastic book fair back @RobyParkSchool this week. Come and have a look at the books on offer after school. Payment can be made using both card & cash. For all books purchased, we receive rewards which can be used to purchase books for our school.
